Is it possible to paint shower tile

Solid-colored tile in bargain materials like ceramic falls at the lower end of these price ranges, while patterned tile in premium materials like marble falls at the higher end—as much as 15 times the cost! Patterns in painted tile floors , on the other hand, would only cost you double or triple the expenses for materials depending on how many colors and time.

Popular bathroom tile materials—ceramic, porcelain a subset of ceramic tile , natural stone marble, travertine, slate, granite, or limestone , and quarry tile—are sold in a number of solid colors or patterns. With paint, you can lighten, darken, or apply a pattern of your own design to your tile to fit any bathroom aesthetic, from a retro checkerboard pattern to a cool and contemporary geometric design.

And, should your style change in three years, you can easily repaint. Keep in mind that brighter paint colors are a better option for space-limited bathrooms; darker paint absorbs light and can have the effect of making a small bath look more constricted.

But your paint job will last the longest on tiled bathroom surfaces that receive low to moderate exposure to moisture—think bathroom floors outside the immediate vicinity of the tub , walls, and backsplashes.

Thats 4 coats — 1 primer, and 3 paint! Your tile may take less or more. Remove the blue painters tape from any decorative areas. In my case, the decorative band was to be painted in charcoal gray. Oops you can where my roller missed the tape a little. Not to worry though…That section is going dark! After the tile paint has dried over night, Re tape the decorative area, this time overlapping the paint onto the white painted tile. Use the back of your nail to adhere the tape firmly to the tile.

This will create a sharp line. Roll on the Charcoal Seal Krete paint covering the entire decorative area. I painted 3 coats of the dark paint allowing 2 hours of dry time between each coat of paint. Using bath and kitchen caulk, seal off the grout line that meets the tub. This will give it an extra layer of waterproofing where water tends to sit. It makes a huge difference…trust me!

Using a foam roller, apply Seal Krete Clear Sealer over the entire tile shower surround. I applied 4 coats, allowing 12 hours dry time between each coat. After all that work, I wanted to be certain it had time to cure properly! If you have more then an ugly tile shower surround, AKA and ugly bathtub, use This product to paint your tub.

I have never used it, but my friend said it works great. Just follow the instructions carefully. The more contrast, the more realistic and interesting it is. Look a picture of actual leaves if it helps. This is my favorite part of the bathroom — the dramatic alcove with painted backsplash and tub panel. And it was underwhelming. So I decided to go bold and paint it Kendall Charcoal!

I used this color in our last kitchen on the walls and backsplash and it went viral. I love this rich color. It was plastic. And yellowing. And ugly. I thought about hiring someone to build around it. And then I thought, I paint everything, I should paint this too! I decided to paint over that too! And it worked! Painting this whole alcove dark gray added drama and contrast. It made it so much more visually interesting.

This project was a quick fix compared to the shower! The shower was by far the most difficult task, so this was a breeze compared to that.

Semi-gloss paint is my new favorite for walls and trim! I love the sheen it gives, especially on smooth walls. Looks more expensive. If kids were going to use it, I would probably use primer first. I have all my stenciling tips and how-tos there — including whether you should use a brush, sponge or roller! I used Kendall Charcoal paint. I will say this stencil has a delicate design. That combined with using a roller produced a different result with each placement.

Are we there yet? Now all is left is the floor. I actually started with my floor and it was such a headache to have so much foot traffic as I completed all the other projects! But at least now I know these will hold up ok. The tile was in pretty good shape, but had a few tiles that were scuffed up.

I made sure to make my checkered pattern around the ones that were the worst. And check out the baseboard and grout in the before picture! I had to cut out all the caulking, reapply it and paint the baseboard too. I chose Light French Gray for a more subtle look. I have it all over my house. You can see my house color palette in this post. Watch this one-minute video to see me do it! That tutorial is next! The grout was originally white, but was yellowed and dirty in some spots.

It was pretty ugly, but still in tact. I decided to clean it and then paint it darker.
